Power Up With PowerPoint

Today weÕll learn how to create a simple 4 page adapted book using PowerPoint.  You will then have the skills to be able to create your very own adapted book as well as other PowerPoints for use in your classrooms!

 

1.     Create a Folder and place your working files all in one place

a.     Put a ÒNew FolderÓ onto the desktop and name it

b.     Put all your scans, downloaded images, sound files into folder

                                      i.     www.troy.krugercentral.com/training

                                    ii.     CTRL-Click images you find on the web to save onto your computer

 

2.     Starting your PowerPoint

a.     HD-Applications-Microsoft Office 2004-Microsoft PowerPoint

b.     Drag PowerPoint into launcher

c.     Click on PowerPoint Icon to launch Program

d.     Select PowerPoint Presentation – Open

 

3.     Experiment with Master Layout options

a.     Put some text into sample boxes

b.     Format-Slide Design      -       Blank

c.     Format-Slide Layout      -       Large Picture

 

4.     Ready to begin creating book

a.     Introduction to Tool Bars – Need to add formatting bar

b.     Insert New Slide – Use Insert-New Slide or icon in tool bar

c.     Make sure you start with first slide and add image to each of your slides

d.     Double click picture windows and insert images from your desktop folder

 

5.     Format your individual slides

a.     Re-size images to fit onto slide

b.     Modify Text for Students

                                      i.     Cannot change the words – copyright

                                    ii.     May re-write, add picture, sound, enlargement support

 

6.     Tips on layers and drawing tools

a.     Think of your slide as layers that you can build onto

b.     Make sure you have format & drawing toolbars displayed. 

                                      i.     View-Toolbars-Format, Drawing

c.     Add a text box layer

                                      i.     Select Text Box Button

                                    ii.     Outline a general area where you want your text to go

                                   iii.     Type in your text

                                   iv.     Highlight new text and format font, color, size, etc

                                    v.     Finalize position of text on page.

d.     Add a drawing shape layer to clean up image

                                      i.     You canÕt simply erase parts of a picture; need to add a layer over it.

                                    ii.     Select a rectangle tool

                                   iii.     Outline area you want to cover up

                                   iv.     Double click your new rectangle

1.     Line: color-select no line-OK

                                    v.     Select bucket fill – pull down arrow tab

1.     Use eye dropper tool to select image area with fill color you want.

 

7.     Add narration to read book out loud

a.     Start with 1st slide

b.     Select slide show toolbar – record narration

c.     Do NOT check Òlink narrationÓ box

d.     Before pressing ÒrecordÓ button, be ready to narrate each page into the computer.  Click your mouse to advance slides as you narrate.  Narrate each slide until the book is finished.

e.     Do NOT set timings if you want your student to advance the slides on their own using a mouse, keyboard or switch.

f.      You have just recorded a narration for each slide, which will stay with the correct slide, even if you change the order of the presentation.

 

8.     Save your PowerPoint

a.     ItÕs a good idea to routinely save as you work on your PowerPoint

b.     You may save as a PowerPoint file, Movie or even a web page!

 

9.     Editing tips for your slide show

a.     Get to know the bottom tool bar

                                      i.     Slide sorter view

                                    ii.     Slide show view
